Origin of ground source heat pump

The concept of "ground source heat pump" was first proposed by Swiss experts in 1912, and the technology was first proposed by the United Kingdom and the United States.

In 1946, the United States built the first ground source heat pump system in downtown Portland, Oregon. However, the use of this energy did not attract extensive attention from all walks of life at that time, and there was not much development in technology and theory.

In the 1950s, the first climax of ground source heat pump research began in Europe. However, due to the low energy price at that time, this system was not economical, so it was not popularized. It was not until the first energy crisis appeared in the world in the early 1970s that it began to receive attention. Many companies began to research, produce and install ground source heat pumps. During this period, many horizontal buried pipe ground source heat pumps were built in Europe, mainly for heating in winter. Although Europe is the most mature region in the world to develop ground source heat pumps, it has also taken a detour in the development of ground source heat pumps because heat pump experts do not understand installation technology, installation workers do not understand heat pump principles and other factors.

With the progress of science and technology, the laws on energy consumption and environmental pollution are more and more strict. The development of ground source heat pump ushered in another climax. European countries, represented by Switzerland, Sweden and Austria, vigorously promote ground source heat pump heating and cooling technology. The government has adopted corresponding subsidy policies and protection policies, which has rapidly expanded the production and use of ground source heat pumps. In the late 1980s, the ground source heat pump technology has become mature. More scientists are committed to the research of the underground system, striving to improve the heat absorption and heat conduction efficiency, and paying more attention to the environmental impact. The production of ground source heat pumps is on the rise year by year, with the annual growth rate of Switzerland and Sweden exceeding 10%. The production and promotion of ground source heat pumps in the United States are fast, and the technology has developed rapidly, making the United States the largest country in the production and use of ground source heat pumps in the world.

From the application of ground source heat pump, Nordic countries mainly focus on winter heating, while the United States focuses on winter and summer combined supply. Because the climate conditions in the United States are very similar to those in China, it is of great significance to study the application of ground source heat pumps in the United States for the development of ground source heat pumps in China.
